INDEPENDENT LEARNING PARA-EDUCATOR  


Part-Time, Long-Term Substitute Position: Job begins in early March 2018 and continues through the end of the school year, May 30th. Position open until filled; mornings daily. Wage is $55 per day for first 20 days, then $75 per day thereafter. School day hours: 8:00 - 11:45 each day.


Summit para-educators supervise and assist students during their daily independent learning period acting as tutors, coaches and teachers in individual and small group work . Additional responsibilities include: supporting students in organizational systems and work habits, creating relationships with students to enable 1:1 support in coursework, research and projects, evaluating student progress on work assignments and communicating work/goal completion with teachers. In addition, the para will supervise students during lunch, recess and field trips, and, as necessary, attend in-services and staff meetings.


The elements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position:


  • A college degree, preferably in education

  • Experience working directly with students in an academic support role: teaching, tutoring or substitute teaching

  • Strong skills in collaboration, coordination, technology and organization

  • A understanding and passion for middle school students

  • A dedication to supporting students in habits of mind, study skills, organizational structures and project management
