ACADEMIC SUPPORT AT SUMMIT

Summit is committed to academic and personal excellence and works to provide the right level of support for every student. We look forward to partnering with parents to help your student grow academically and personally during their time in middle school. Our academic support team will monitor all students' progress, and make any support recommendations that may be needed.

How does the academic support team determine if my student needs support?
Our team will use a variety of different data points, such as MAP test data, standardized test result, past teacher recommendations, and current progress in their classes. Our team will also take feedback and recommendations from your family as well as from your student's teachers.

How often do academic support classes meet?
Depending on the level of support needed, your student could meet with their academic support class everyday or every other day. Our academic support classes are set up like elective classes and will follow the A-Day/B-Day schedule.

Is an academic support class required if my student has an Individualized Education Program (IEP)?
Yes. Any student will an IEP will be required to take a daily academic support class with our special education teacher Erin Columbus. This class will help meet the requirements of your student's IEP and ensure that we are properly serving your student.

Can I 'graduate' from an academic support class?
Yes! Students who have shown growth and improvement can move out of their support class at the semester change, pending teacher recommendation.

Do I have to enroll in an academic support class to get support from my teachers?
No. Students are always welcome, and encouraged, to attend their teacher's scheduled office hours. The office hours calendar is typically posted in the Cafe as well as in each of the student common areas in our school. You can also download a printable office hours calendar here (coming in August).
